Physiology

Vision Statement

To emerge as a National and global centre of excellence in Medical Physiology, advancing knowledge and innovation through cutting-edge research, transformative teaching, and compassionate patient care. We aspire to lead the integration of physiological sciences with modern technology for a healthier society, fostering the next generation of clinicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals.

Mission Statement

1. Teaching and Training

  • To provide robust, evidence-based education in Human Physiology that bridges basic science with clinical practice.
  • To foster critical thinking, inquiry, and innovation among undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students through hands-on exposure to advanced physiological assessment tools and translational research.
  • To continuously update and enhance the curriculum using modern educational methodologies and state-of-the-art laboratories including future equipment such as Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), neurobiofeedback systems, advanced EEG setups, and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) units.

2. Research Excellence

  • To conduct interdisciplinary and translational research that addresses contemporary health challenges including neurophysiology, sleep disorders, autonomic dysfunction, and lifestyle diseases.
  • To establish well-equipped research laboratories incorporating advanced modalities like fNIRS, EEG, NCV/EMG, and neurobiofeedback to explore brain-body interactions, neural mechanisms, and integrative physiology.
  • To promote collaborative research with national and international institutes, emphasizing innovation, ethical integrity, and societal relevance.

3. Patient Care and Community Services

  • To provide specialized diagnostic and therapeutic services including Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), Autonomic Function Testing (AFT), Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT), sleep laboratory evaluations, and lifestyle modification clinics.
  • To integrate physiological insights with patient-centric care for early detection, personalized treatment, and health promotion.
  • To expand the scope and quality of patient services by incorporating upcoming technologies like CPET, neurobiofeedback, and advanced electrophysiological assessments for a holistic approach to functional health evaluation.
