The Department of Medical Oncology at AIIMS Bilaspur envisions building a multidisciplinary workforce equipped to address India’s growing cancer burden, nurturing future leaders in Oncology, advancing cancer research, and strengthening oncology services across both tertiary and district-level care.

Through ethical integration of technology, global collaborations, and community-focused initiatives, the department strives to transform cancer care delivery and training in the region and beyond.

Services

In-Patients Department:

The Department of Medical Oncology provides comprehensive inpatient care for patients requiring intensive monitoring and management.

Services include administration of systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy; management of treatment-related toxicities; supportive and palliative care; and coordination of multidisciplinary care for complex oncological cases.

Dedicated care is provided for oncological emergencies including febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome, and disease-related complications.

The department works in close collaboration with other specialties to ensure holistic patient management.

Outpatients Department:

The Outpatient Department (OPD) serves as the primary point of contact for cancer patients and offers comprehensive evaluation, treatment planning, and follow-up care.

Services include initial consultation, staging workup, treatment decision-making, administration of day-care therapies, and long-term surveillance.

A strong emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary discussions to ensure individualized, evidence-based treatment plans. Preventive oncology, patient counseling, and survivorship care are also integral components of OPD services.

Procedures (Diagnostic and Therapeutic) Offered by the Department:

  • Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
  • Lumbar puncture with intrathecal chemotherapy administration.
  • Ascitic and pleural fluid tapping (therapeutic and diagnostic).
  • Central venous access device management (where applicable).
  • Administration of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy in day-care and inpatient settings.

All procedures are performed following standard safety protocols to ensure patient comfort and quality care.
