Vision Statement
The Department of Nephrology at AIIMS Bilaspur started functioning with the joining of faculty on November 21, 2020. The Department is committed to providing comprehensive kidney care services with a focus on clinical excellence, academic advancement, and research in nephrology. To establish the Department of Nephrology at AIIMS Bilaspur as a centre of excellence and a national leader in comprehensive kidney care, advancing clinical services, education, and research in nephrology.

Services
The Department of Nephrology provides routine and emergency care for kidney patients on both outpatient and inpatient basis. The Dialysis Unit became operational with the inauguration of AIIMS Bilaspur by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on October 05, 2022.
The Department conducts outpatient services three days per week and provides comprehensive nephrology consultation and management services for various renal disorders.
Procedures and Clinical Services
- Placement of temporary hemodialysis catheters.
- Placement of tunneled hemodialysis catheters.
- Creation of arteriovenous (AV) fistulas.
- Native kidney biopsies.
- Graft kidney biopsies.
Dialysis Services
The Dialysis Unit operates 24×7 throughout the year, ensuring uninterrupted renal replacement therapy services for patients requiring maintenance and emergency dialysis support.

- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Sustained Low-Efficiency Dialysis (SLED)
- Slow Continuous Ultrafiltration (SCUF)
- Plasmapheresis
Kidney Transplant Services
AIIMS Bilaspur was registered for kidney transplantation with the State Appropriate Authority of Himachal Pradesh with effect from August 08, 2024. A dedicated three-bedded Renal Transplant ICU was subsequently established, and kidney transplant services became operational from October 02, 2024.

Undergraduate Teaching
Teaching of MBBS students in Nephrology and Dialysis is conducted as per the undergraduate medical curriculum.
Postgraduate Teaching
Rotational training in Nephrology is provided to postgraduate students from the Departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, and Pathology.
Post Doctoral Teaching
The DM (Nephrology) training programme was started in 2024 with an intake of 2 seats each in January and July sessions.
